AMR: THE PRESCRIPTION CHALLENGE

AMR: THE PRESCRIPTION CHALLENGE

People die every year from antibiotic resistance. If we don’t do anything about it, the number could reach 10 million by the year 2050. We are developing the serious game “The prescription challenge” for AMR to contribute to the responsible use of antibiotics.

Awareness for doctors

Players take on the role of doctors around the world. Each case has its own challenges, but the key question remains the same: does this patient need antibiotics or not? If players are not responsible with the available medicine, they will see the resistance to different types of antibiotics skyrocket. That may be manageable for a luxury practice in New York, but what does that mean for a general practitioner in a developing country? After all, only a fraction of the resources are available there.

By making players aware of the consequences of prescribing antibiotics, AMR wants to make doctors actively think about the choices they make. In this way we try to get rid of mindsets like “this is how we always do it”, “that’s how I keep my patients happy” and “There’s no pain in trying”.
